Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy believes Siyanda Xulu could get a new lease on life following the arrival of John Paintsil as assistant coach.
Xulu was placed on the transfer list at Naturena after a disappointing debut season, where he made only nine appearances for the Soweto giants since signing a lucrative contract from Russian club FC Rostov in 2015.
But McCarthy feels that, as a former defender himself, Paintsil could help Xulu regain his confidence at Chiefs after being discarded recently.
"Look, it's obviously a personal case for him on how he is going to take it (being transfer-listed) and accepting it," the 39-year-old former Bafana Bafana international told Goal.com website.
"However, he is still there. It doesn't mean that he is on transfer, he is gone. He still has a second chance and I think with Paintsil coming in with his experience, he will see something in Xulu to convince coach Steve [Komphela] to bring him back to the team.
"Xulu can come back with his head clean and everything in order because I told him that it doesn't mean that he's gone from Chiefs.
"He has a contract and its how he's going to come back now and not necessarily shut the mouth but to show the people that you really deserve to be there and he deserves another chance because I rate him very highly."
