McCarthy hails Cape Town City's technical team

Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has praised the impact, influence and effectiveness of his technical team during what has been a superb season for the Citizens.

McCarthy's number two and assistant coach is Vasili Manousakis while the club's analyst is Rayaan Jacobs.

He told KickOff website: "I rely on those two guys and they play a very important role in the team.

"We complement one another very well. Basil [Vasili] my assistant is one of the best out there, you know. He brings a calming effect and so does [Rayaan] Jacobs.

"Look, I'm passionate and emotional on the touchline. I usually get myself fired up and sometimes into trouble. But it's because I don't like it when my players get hurt. That's when I get emotionally involved.

"That's where they come in. Basil has that aura and response, he brings a calmness. He just knows what to say and when to say it. Like for instance he would let me know that 'hey you can't go off now, Benni, he will remind me. Mind you, I picked him myself."

The former Bafana Bafana superstar also praised Jacobs, saying he noticed his impact when they were together at Orlando Pirates: "I worked with him at Pirates and we would go through footage of the games, you know. He would highlight where there is room for improvement and other technical stuff. This was very refreshing for me.

"These guys are miles ahead with the modern trends. I can really trust them with my life. This allows me to also take a back seat and allow them to express themselves and to grow."
