Cape Town - Former Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy feels this season's Absa Premiership title is Kaizer Chiefs' to lose but also said Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates aren't out of the race.

Amakhosi currently hold a four-point lead over Sundowns with both teams still having 10 games of the season remaining while Orlando Pirates are a further two points behind having played a game more than the top two.

Bafana legend McCarthy, who was sacked as Cape Town City coach in November last year, feels this season's PSL is very exciting as it will go down to the wire.

In quotes published in TimesLive, McCarthy said: "Chiefs is in the driver's seat. But (Mamelodi) Sundowns and Orlando Pirates aren't out of it.

"The PSL is exciting. It is heating up. It is definitely more interesting than the (English) Premier League. The Premier League is a one-horse race.

"Teams will run each other down. Chiefs will drop points. Pirates will drop points. Sundowns might still drop points."

McCarthy feels Sundowns might have split priorities as the Tshwane club are still competing in the Caf Champions League.

The former Citizens mentor has also not ruled out a late charge for the league title by either SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits.

McCarthy added: "With Sundowns playing in the CAF (Champions League) quarter-finals, their focus might shift from the (domestic) league. Supersport (United) and Wits are still in it.

"Five teams still in it. Pirates and Sundowns stand a hell of a chance. (But) it is Chiefs' league to lose."
