Cape Town - Orlando Pirates administrative officer Floyd Mbele has revealed Muhsin Ertugral's experience as the main reason they gave him the coaching job.
The former Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs coach penned a three-year contract with the Buccaneers following his successful 2015/16 campaign with Mpumalanga Black Aces, which saw him lead the club to their highest Premiership finish in history.
"Muhsin has coached around the world‚ and the fact that he is so highly qualified‚ has such a wealth of experience‚ and has also acted as a FIFA analyst at major tournaments - these are all factors that influenced our decision in hiring him‚" Mbele told SABC's Sport at 10.
"His recent success at Aces did play a role in the decision, but we are also very aware that Muhsin is no one-season wonder by any stretch of the imagination.
"He has had success wherever he has coached. He is known for nurturing young talent. And he is a coach who commands respect from players."
Pirates supporters took to social media platforms after the announcement on Tuesday, with some comparing Eric Tinkler with Ertugral, but Mbele feels the comparison is unfair.
"Muhsin does have great experience, but I don't think it would be fair to compare the two coaches," Mbele added.
