Matthews: SuperSport proud to help club legend Klate in coaching career

SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews says the club are proud to be able to help Daine Klate in the next phase of his career.

The 35-year-old, who called an end to his playing days in 2019 while at Chippa United, is currently in the process of securing his UEFA A-license.

He has been afforded the opportunity to complete his practicals with Matsatsantsa, having spent six productive years with the club.

Klate, who also played for Bafana Bafana, Orlando Pirates, and Bidvest Wits where he continued to win trophies.

Matthews told TimesLive: "That was an easy decision for us to make because he's a legend at the club.

"He's someone we're exceptionally proud of. We signed him as a young lad and he helped us achieve history‚ and then went on to create his own history in his own right by being the most decorated player in the PSL.

"He was always going to be someone who took coaching on after football. So when he called me to ask if he could do his internship through SuperSport it wasn’t with a shadow of a doubt."

Matthews added though that it will be difficult to immediately employ Klate though as a result of the coronavirus.

"In terms of his involvement with the club beyond [the internship]‚ obviously that's a moving target and something we would have to engage down the line."

"It's not an easy job market right now. At the moment we’re holding onto the jobs that we have and there aren’t those vacancies."
