Bethlehem - Orlando Pirates captain Thabo Matlaba says that the pre-match team-talk from Eric Tinkler is what got them over the finish line against Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.

A brace for the inform Luvuyo Memela together with a late strike by Thamsanqa Gabuza and an own goal by Lucky Mohomi were sufficient to advance the Happy People to their 16th Nedbank Cup final.
Stars grabbed the consolation goals courtesy of Lucky Mohomi and Ayanda Nkosi in match that was played at Goble Park.
Matlaba, 27, said Tinkler urged the Buccanneers to play the game as if they are up against Al Ahly of Egypt in the CAF Champions League and that positive mind-set played a significant role in their victory.
“The coach (Tinkler) encouraged us to win the game because this is the last competition on offer this season,” said Matlaba
“He told us to bounce back to the winning ways after failing to win in the last four games.
“He urged us to use our experience and also take it as if we are playing against Al Ahly in the Champions league.
“Let’s go there and show them that we are an experienced team and we have been doing well in these cup competitions.
“And we went there and played extremely well so his motivations’ worked for the team.”
Pirates will face the rejuvenated SuperSport United in the final of the at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on May 28.
