Cape Town - Orlando Pirates skipper Thabo Matlaba was satisfied with a draw against SuperSport United on the final day of the Premiership campaign, but admits he was hoping to claim all three points ahead of the Nedbank Cup final.
The draw against Stuart Baxter's men at Orlando Stadium saw the Buccaneers finish the Absa Premiership campaign in seventh place, one point ahead of SuperSport, who leapfrogged Golden Arrows into eighth.
And now that their top-eight place has been secured, Matlaba has cast his attentions towards next weekend's crunch clash with Matsatsantsa at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
"Yes, job done. We wanted to win this game so that we can stay in the top eight," Matlaba told SuperSport in his post-match interview.
"Even though the draw was okay, we wanted to win it so that we can get a confidence booster going into next week's [Nedbank Cup final] game."
He added: "You saw [today], SuperSport can compete; they did very well to come from behind and score those two goals.
"We need to concentrate and focus until the final whistle [when we play against them next weekend]. They are a good team and they played very well."
Goals from Sifiso Myeni and Mpho Makola gave Pirates the lead on two separate occasions in Saturday's fixture, with Bradley Grobler and Denwin Farmer netting the equalisers for SuperSport.
