Masilela to Chiefs fans: 'Sundowns are always a threat'

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has warned the Amakhosi that the race for the league title is not over until the fat lady sings.

Chiefs currently lead Sundowns by 10 points with 10 wins from their opening 12 matches. But Masilela, who now plies his trade with AmaZulu, recalls in the 2013/2014 season that the Amakhosi led the Brazilians by the same amount of points but still let the title slip from their grasp.

“I have experience in what I have to say about the PSL title. You cannot just celebrate because Chiefs know they are followed by Sundowns on the log table,” Masilela told Isolezwe.

“If I remember very well during the 2013/14 season, we led Sundowns with the same number of points, but things changed towards the last game of the season where we failed to lift the title – Sundowns eventually won it.

“The fans cannot just start to celebrate because there are so many games to play until the end of the season.

“Sundowns are always a threat if they are behind the log leaders. Everybody was thinking Chiefs will win the title but Sundowns surprised many and won it," added the 34-year-old.

Amakhosi are back in action this weekend against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Kick-off is at 20:00 on Saturday.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
