Masilela: I haven't thought about retirement

Tsepo Masilela is concerned about his immediate future in football as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but isn't thinking about retirement.

The former Hellenic, Maccabi Haifa and Kaizer Chiefs left-back is now 35 years old.

His current contract with AmaZulu expires at the end of next month and despite being a regular in the side this season, the uncertainty surrounding the resumption of the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League season is a worry.

Speaking to the Daily Sun, Masilela said: "I remember reading an interview by Robin van Persie where he talked about the uncertainty of football.

"You can plan to play for six years at a particular team. But anything can happen in football.

"The club may decide not to renew your contract. You can get injured. Look, even (SuperSport United captain) Dean Furman is moving back to the UK."

Reflecting on the possibility of retirement, the former Bafana Bafana defender added: "Family is also involved. It's tough to plan when exactly one is going to retire. Football is a tough career.

"Some players disappear after two seasons and people wonder what happened to them. But I haven't thought about retirement."
