Masilela denies being bothered with warming the bench

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs left-back Tsepo Masilela is taking his time out the starting XI in his stride and says it's part of the game.

The arrival of Sibusiso Khumalo has seen Masilela start only two league games for Amakhosi this season.

Khumalo, meanwhile, has made the starting line-up for all four of the games Chiefs have won in the league and appears determined to hold onto his spot.

Masilela, who played in Israel as well as for Getafe in the La Liga, is into his fourth campaign at Naturena.

Speaking to KickOff, the 31-year-old defender has explained that sitting on the bench is part of the game and that the experience is not new to him.

"It is competition and competition has always been there. It is not only Sbu that I have had to compete with," he said.

"I have always competed with the other guys and the important thing is that the team is winning games now and they are performing, and you give support to whoever is playing while waiting for your chance. This is football.

"It is not strange because, even last season, there was some games that I missed, I was on the bench and Keagan [Ritchie] played.

"Even with Stuart [Baxter], I would sit on the bench and Keagan or Simphiwe Mtsweni would play, so it is nothing strange and the positive is that the team is winning and getting results."

With the Soweto giants sitting at the top of the league table, Masilela says he can have no complaints about his personal situation.

"The team comes first; Kaizer Chiefs comes first. If Kaizer Chiefs is winning and the fans are happy that is important," the Bafana Bafana international declared.
