Maritzburg players given leave to mourn Dlamini

Cape Town - Maritzburg United general manager Quinton Jettoo confirmed that the squad has been given time off to mourn Mlondi Dlamini, after his death in a car accident on Sunday.

The highly-rated 20-year-old midfielder passed away after reportedly being a passenger in the car crash, which took place near Cato Ridge while the occupants were on their way back from Durban.

It is the second time in just over 18 months that tragedy has hit the the Team of Choice after late former midfielder Mondli Cele also died in an accident while travelling back from Durban last year.

Jettoo told Times Live,: "We will announce more details of the funeral and the players will return on Wednesday to see how we take this forward."

The club resume their Premiership campaign after the international break when they face Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on 18 October.

Dlamini was a nominee for the MultiChoice Diski Challenge Player of the Season in 2016/17, and it was hoped he had a bright future in the professional game in the years to come.
