Cape Town - Maritzburg United are desperate to tie Siyanda Xulu down to a new deal after Orlando Pirates were linked with the star defender.
United chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed that the club were in talks with Xulu, whose contract expires at the end of the season, over a new deal.
"We would love to keep Siyanda at the club. We’ve offered him a new deal, but his agent is playing his cards close to his chest," Kadodia IOL.
"No club has got hold of us regarding the services of Siyanda. He is still our player and we are working on keeping him at the club."
Kadodia has also confirmed that the Team of Choice will not be looking to make any further signings in the transfer window, having brought in Tebogo Tlolane on loan from the Buccaneers.
"I don't want to sign the players who haven't played enough in the last six months. We are not interested in any of the players. We are happy with the players that we have in our team," Kadodia explained.
Maritzburg face Cape Town City on Friday night at Harry Gwala Stadium in a tussle for the top eight.
Kick-off is at 20:00.
