Mangena: Chiefs players short on confidence

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs legend Mike Mangena believes the team needed to strengthen their mentality if they are to succeed this season.

Amakhosi have had a difficult start to the season after losing both their opening games.

Chiefs lost 2-1 to Wits in their Premiership curtain-raiser and were dumped out of the MTN8 after a 2-1 loss to Cape Town City FC.

Mangena is of the view that the Soweto giants are low on confidence due to their struggles.

"You can imagine the amount of pressure that there is at Chiefs," Mangena told Soccer Laduma.

"I understand the pressure on some of the players and it takes time to adjust to that pressure.

"I feel that they've got the players and all they need to do now, perhaps, is bring in a sports psychologist full time. They can help the players restore their belief, because there's no confidence and they are good players. They just need the belief to say that 'we can do it'."
