Maluleka vows to impress against Pirates

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder George Maluleka is longing to make Amakhosi's final team to take on arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the 2016 Carling Black Label Champion Cup.

The 27-year-old, who joined Amakhosi from Supersport United after being tipped to make waves in the Absa Premiership, is yet to reach his true potential at the Naturena-based side.

"When joining Chiefs from Supersport I knew very well I would be competing with the best to fight for Chiefs' starting eleven," Maluleka told Vodacom Soccer.

"Yes, I've been trying my best to fight for a starting berth, yet at times I struggled for game-time, but have never been demoralised.

"I have been keeping pushing, and surely coach Steve [Komphela] has not turned a blind eye to my efforts, which is why I'm still in his plans for the next season," added the Tembisa-born midfielder, who made 12 starts, 22 substitutes and scored 3 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions last season.

"I'm praying to make the Chiefs' final team that will play in the Black Label Cup on 30 July. If I can get a run in the Black Label Cup, I will make sure to make an impression on the coach [Komphela] so that he would consider me when the season starts next month.

"I know the competition for the team's starting eleven will be even tougher next season, considering a number of signings that have been made in the team. But I'm more than prepared to sweat it it out to convince the team's technical team and supporters that I deserve to get a nod in Chiefs' competitive side next season," he concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune and Orlando Pirates' Tendai Ndoro are currently leading the voting for places Chiefs' and Pirates' Carling Black Label Cup starting line-ups.
