Maluleka: The minute it left my boot I knew

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka says he was delighted to get back into scoring form after hitting the winner against SuperSport United on Wednesday.

Maluleka last scored for Chiefs in the Absa Premiership against Baroka on 30 September 2017, however, he was the hero at the Mbombela Stadium as his 64th minute strike proved to be the difference.

In addition, the 29-year-old was named man-of-the-match for his efforts.

Speaking to SuperSport after the game, he said: "First of all I'd like to thank the Almighty God, he made it possible for all of us to be here. The technical team, my team-mates we did very well tonight.

"It was a very good game of football. We applied ourselves. We needed the three points, we knew it was going to be very difficult but overall scoring the goal after over a year [of not scoring], yeah, it's been a very long time. I'm glad it came tonight.

"The minute it left my boot I knew [it was going in]. I connected very well [with the ball]. Ronwen [Williams] knows me well and I know him well too. He chose a side and I went the other way. It felt very good."

Adding of coach Ernst Middendorp's first match in charge, 'Mido' said: "The coach has been here for a couple of days now and he made it clear to us from the onset, how he wanted us to play, we did that.

"He told us to work very hard, to work as a team, we did exactly that. We were able to get maximum points tonight."
