Malasela wins on Chippa debut

Cape Town - Chippa United midfielder Buyani Sali netted the winner as his team came from a goal down to beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in their Absa Premiership clash in Port Elizabeth on Friday night.

It was coach Dan 'Dance' Malasela's debut on the Chippa bench and also his first PSL top-flight game in charge following his move from Cape Town All Stars in the National First Division.

The first real chance of the game came after six minutes when Frank Mhango’s free kick hit the crossbar and moments later Chippa’s Burkina Faso international forward Aristide Bance’s effort on the other end was deflected for a corner.

Then the visitors struck the opening goal when striker Vuyani Ntanga found space just outside the 18 area and his left footed strike took a deflection and crept into the back of the net.

Celtic had a few more chances in the second half, but poor decision making from Thapelo Morena and an offside flag against Musa Bilankulu saw the opportunities were wasted.

Six minutes into the second half and the home side were back in the game. William Twala was allowed space to beat the defence and drove home his shot.

The home side continued to apply the pressure in a much improved second half and they were rewarded when Buyani Sali netted a second goal from a well worked attacking move in the 70th minute.

There were a few half chances late in the game, but overall Chippa were now well in control of the game and showed character, discipline and tactical strength to see out the remainder of the game and take the full points.
