Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town have confirmed the signing of 23-year-old attacking midfielder Neo Makua from Bidvest Wits ahead of the 2016/17 Premiership season.
Makua spent the last month on loan at the Ikamva-based outfit in a bid to secure a first-team contract with the Urban Warriors, and following a successful stint, Ajax have revealed that they've secured the player's services.
"Neo is another exciting young player we add to our squad. He is very quick and skilful as well. He will definitely add a dimension to our squad that we are looking for in attack," Roger De Sa told the club's official website.
"He did very well in the Varsity Cup with Wits. He can play with his left and right foot, which is something we look for at Ajax. I think he’s going to fit into the Ajax system very well."
De Sa's squad has been bolstered by the arrivals of Roscoe Pietersen, Thabo Mosadi, Keorapetse Molete, Erick Chipeta and Jucie Lupeta, in addition to seven youngsters being promoted to the first team from the academy setup.
Makua revealed that he has been settling in well at Ajax, with both the players and the coach welcoming him with open arms ahead of his debut season in the Absa Premiership.
"It’s been quite an experience so far, the guys have welcomed me into their team," he said. "The coach also welcomed me with open arms and hasn’t put too much pressure on me yet. They’ve allowed me to show what I’ve got to offer, so it’s been really good here so far.
"Ajax Cape Town is a team who always gives the youth opportunities. They aren’t scared to play against the best with young players, unlike other teams. There are also some experienced players who guide the youngsters and mould them into better players.
"The team is full of energy and I believe we are going to make a lot of teams sweat this season," Makua concluded.
