Cape Town - Maritzburg United midfielder Fortune Makaringe has confirmed rumours he is set to depart the club for greener pastures.
Rumours doing the rounds suggested that he was off to join Orlando Pirates, which he all but confirmed on Saturday by saying the 2-1 win over Tshakuma Tsha Madzihandila was his swansong for the club.
"Yes, it was goodbye for me. The chairperson [Farook Kadodia] always tell us he will always allow us to grow as footballers. It’s very emotional for me because this team took me from nowhere," he told SuperSport.
Makaringe's excellent form this season has earned him a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations competition in Egypt, which he believes he could not have done without Maritzburg.
"I came from Moroka Swallows MDC team and grew in this team. I'm even in the Bafana Bafana AFCON squad because of Maritzburg United," he explained.
"I will always cherish every moment I had with the club, even from 10 years from now I will always remember this team."
