Cape Town - Lehlonolo Majoro says he doesn't pay attention to those that say he is over the hill after scoring for AmaZulu against Maritzburg United in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Majoro recently rejoined Usuthu where he began his career, netting an impressive 14 times in 29 appearances in his maiden stint at the club. And on Saturday, Majoro scored in his first game back at the club to secure a 2-1 victory over the Team of Choice in the Msunduzi Cup semi-final before Usuthu beat Bidvest Wits 2-1 to the claim the pre-season trophy.
The man affectionately known as 'Major' left AmaZulu back in 2011 to join Kaizer Chiefs, where he scored 20 goals in 59 appearances. But what followed were leaner spells at Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City and Bidvest Wits in which he hit the back of the net just 23 times in 93 appearances.
This has prompted certain sections of the footballing fraternity to intimate that the 32-year-old is not the player he once was. But Majoro has hit out at his haters and says he is his best critic.
"This is where it all began, the Majoro I am today was first founded here at AmaZulu. So far it has been a fantastic stay, they have welcomed me very well and I'm looking forward to many moments like this. A lot has changed but the warmth of the club is still the same," he said.
"Those who think I'm a failure, they must continue thinking I'm a failure because football people can evaluate you differently, but what matters most is the individual when you do self-introspection on whether you have done well or not. I'm quite happy because each and every year I'm still in the PSL, which is very important.
"I'm very much happy to be here, I am long term with AmaZulu, this is home and I have to work extra hard to make sure the team does well. My target will always be helping my team and delivering when the opportunity is given."
