Mahlangu questions Zungu role

Cape Town - Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Page Mahlangu has questioned whether Bongani Zungu is being utilised to the full extent of his ability by coach Pitso Mosimane.

Zungu was signed by 'Downs from the University of Pretoria in 2013 after helping his side secure a top-eight finish in the Absa Premiership standings.

His seven goals played an important role in Tuks' success, but the midfielder struggled to match those exploits at Sundowns.

Mahlangu feels that can be attributed to the way his talents are utilised by Mosimane.

"Bongani Zungu is a totally different player compared to how others are playing for Sundowns," Mahlangu told Goal website.

"My view is when you scout a player, he should be having a role earmarked already. At Tuks, he was a sort of player that was given a free role and that's why he was scoring lots of goals.

"There is a role that he is playing at Sundowns which basically is what the coach (Mosimane) requires.

"We don't know whether he is giving him a free role or he is being told to stay and then allowed to go forward only once in a while. It is clear that sometimes he is told to sit back."
