Cape Town - Veteran defender Rooi Mahamutsa says he is over the moon that he will be playing continental football again with Free State Stars in the new season.

Mahamutsa over the weekend helped Ea Lla Koto secure qualification to play in next season's Confederations Cup after beating Maritzburg United 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup final.

The 36-year old defender tasted continental football during a long career with Orlando Pirates, where he played in both the Confederations Cup as well as the CAF Champions League.

He said they never doubted their abilities as a team and winning the Nedbank Cup is a good reward for them.

Mahamutsa told Supersport: “I want to thank God for the victory in the final, my teammates, coaches, the Mokoena family and our supporters.

“I feel like I’m getting young with each and every day. It’s all about hard work.

“Like I said before, I trusted the soldiers that we have in our team and this is the reward for the effort we have put in.

“I’m very happy for the team and with the squad that we have here, I strongly believe that we can conquer Africa.

“This has been my dream also, to go back in Africa and get a different experience.

“Playing in a different environment, it will help the players to get a taste of how it feels like to play in the continent.”
