Magesi look to trouble Wits

Cape Town - Magesi FC will look to cause a major upset in the Nedbank Cup when they host Bidvest Wits at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on April 1.

kick-off is at 20:00.

Current form

Magesi beat fellow lower league side EC Bees 2-1 away from home in the previous round to advance into the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup. They are the only ABC Motsepe side remaining in the competition, with the other 15 teams hailing from either the top flight or the National First Division.

Wits edged fellow PSL side Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in the previous round, while they come into the game having lost their most recent outing 4-3 away to Tanzania’s Azam FC to be knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Head-to-head history

This will be the first competitive match between Magesi FC and Bidvest Wits.

Nedbank Cup pedigree

Magesi are competing in the Nedbank Cup for the fourth time (though their first two showings in 2009 and 2010 were under their old name, Peace Lovers FC). In their current guise, the Limpopo side last competed in the 2013 Nedbank Cup and were eliminated in the last 32 round by Jomo Cosmos.

Wits have won the Nedbank Cup twice, with their most recent triumph arriving in 2010 when they defeated AmaZulu in the final, and they were also runners-up in 2005. Last season the Clever Boys were beaten 2-1 in the quarterfinals by eventual runners-up Ajax Cape Town.
