Mabokgwane's Pirates exit explained by agent

Cape Town - Jackson Mabokgwane was released by Orlando Pirates because his contract expired and it was decided to part ways reveals his agent Jazzman Mahlakgane.

Mabokgwane spent three seasons at Pirates but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.

Last season the 31-year-old made just three appearances as Wayne Sandilands ended the campaign as number one.

Mahlakgane told KickOff the reason he had left but would not divulge his next destination: "There's nothing yet but at the moment as you may be aware it's official that he has left Pirates.

"I'm just on the talking terms with people. There's no straight-cut out in terms of a club but I'm talking to clubs. I can't mention them because it will jeopardise this boy's opportunity.

"What happened at Pirates is that his contract ended. So with his contract finished the team's explanation was that amongst the goalkeepers they have, he is the one whose contract has expired. So obviously then they opted not to renew. So we'll have to look for a new club."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
