Mabokgwane ready for goalkeeper battle

Cape Town - New Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane says he is ready to fight for the number one jersey in the upcoming Premiership season.

After joining from the defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces, Mabokgwane will face stiff competition from new teammates Brighton Mhlongo, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Felipe Ovono.

The 28-year-old stopper is once again working under coach Muhsin Ertugral after their time together at AmaZayoni.

"I'm very happy to have played in this jersey, honoured, I thank the Mighty God, the chairman Irvin Khoza and technical team for giving me an opportunity to be part of the team," Mabokgwane told Goal.com website.

"I'm very happy, proud of myself and looking forward to playing well and win more trophies for the club.

"Pirates is a big club and it's important to have competition in every department, they have brought us in to ensure there's competition, to strengthen the goalkeeping department and that's good for the team.

"It's only great to have good goalkeepers that you'll be able to rely on, well done to Felipe Ovono in the second half and in the penalties. We're a team and a collective."

Pirates will take on Golden Arrows in their Premiership season opener on August 24.
