Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lebohang Maboe says he welcomes being compared to the legendary Teko Modise, though he wants to make his own mark in the game.

Maboe is becoming a first team regular for Sundowns in 2018/19 after signing from Maritzburg United ahead of the current campaign.

The 24-year-old was recently asked by a journalist if he would consider himself to be a player in the same mould as Modise, and he responded by saying he enjoyed the comparison but was seeking to be unique.

Modise made his name with Orlando Pirates before spending six years of success with Mamelodi Sundowns. During that period, he won six major titles including the CAF Champions League in 2016.

In addition, during a stellar international career with Bafana Bafana he made 66 appearances and notched up an impressive 10 goals as well. He currently is under contract at Cape Town City at the age of 35.

Maboe said: "I would (be compared) because 'Dona' is a very good player and he is in a class of his own.

"I can [be classed in the same level as Modise] and I am beyond that. I am special and unique in my own way.

"I am with Sundowns and I am looking forward to winning as many trophies as I can with the team."

The forward could be in action tonight for the Brazilians as they take on Free State Stars in a Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria from 19:30.

Downs will be hoping to bounce back from a defeat to Baroka in a Telkom Knockout quarter-final last weekend.
