Mabedi: Our tactics worked to perfection Maritzburg

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs' interim boss Patrick Mabedi has explained the tactics behind his side's 2-0 win over Maritzburg United, claiming they worked to perfection.

Mabedi made three changes to his starting XI after a 3-1 defeat to Golden Arrows in midweek.

Gustavo Paez started up front in place of Leonardo Castro; Tsepo Masilela made way for Sibusiso Khumalo, with Joseph Malongoane switching from right to left, and Siyabonga Ngezana replaced Erick Mathoho.

Paez ended up opening the scoring in the 29th minute, before substitute Dumisani Zuma doubled Amakhosi's lead in the 67th minute.

"It worked. We looked at the left because we knew they would be coming for more combination and we also tried to play them with pace and force them to go wide... they are strong in the middle because they always overload the midfield,” Mabedi told SuperSport of his tactics.

Steve Komphela's former assistant also credited his players for coping well with Maritzburg's long balls.

He expressed satisfaction at the way the players executed his orders, saying: "It was very important for us to win and come back to a respectable position and I’m happy because the message was clear to the players with clear instructions."
