Mabaso patiently waiting for Pirates debut

Cape Town - Newly signed Orlando Pirates defender Abel Mabaso is confident that when the chance arises to make his competitive debut for his new club, he will make the most of it.

Mabaso was signed in the off-season from Chippa United but has yet to feature for Milutin Sredojevic's side in their five competitive fixtures so far this season.

"I've been working hard with my team-mates and I feel confident of the work I've put in," he told Soccer Laduma website.

"There is a lot of quality in this team which means you need to be at your best to play.

"What I can tell you is that when my time comes for me to play I will be more than ready.

"It's always good for the coaches to have lots of players they can rely on throughout all the positions.

"The added advantage with me is that I can play throughout the defence and in front of the back four and this gives the coaches more options."

The former Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns man has previously said that he prefers playing in midfield to defence.

However, when Masandawana lacked cover at right-back, Mabaso was asked to fill in there.

With the likes of Xola Mlambo, Musa Nyatama and Ben Motshwari competing for midfield places, the 27-year-old's versatility is bound to come in handy.
