Cape Town - Black Leopards defender Chris Katjiukua has apologised to Bidvest Wits forward Fagrie Lakay for his challenge on the player on Wednesday which may have ended his season.
Wits beat Leopards 3-1 earlier this week as Simon Murray, Deon Hotto and Elias Pelembe got the goals. Mwape Musonda got the away side's solitary strike in Johannesburg.
Nonetheless, in the contest Lakay had come on as a sub in the 70th minute but had to be taken off again in the 80th minute after a late tackle from Katjiukua.
As such, the 32-year-old has been quick to express his remorse, telling Kickoff: "I had the ball and I wanted to clear it.
"He came from the blind side and I did not see him, so the moment I wanted to clear the ball he put in his foot. That's where I caught him, so I just wanted to say I did not mean to injure him.
"I want to ask apology from the management at Wits and to Fagrie Lakay. I want to wish him a speedy recovery. I called him last night after I got the number from Deon Hotto and I told him that I'm sorry and that I'll keep him in my prayers.
"He said that it's okay and that he knows I did not do it intentionally. Even this morning I sent a SMS to Hotto, so that he forwards it to the Wits players, so that they see that I have apologised to the boy."
It has been revealed that Lakay has suffered a broken leg although the full extent of the injury is expected to be revealed by the Clever Boys medical team at a later stage.
