Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town gave themselves hope in the battle for survival as they clinched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Baroka FC at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The hosts saw plenty of the ball in the opening stages, while Baroka adopted an approach of shoot on sight, with Jody February making a routine save from a long-range effort on the right in the ninth minute.
Ayanda Dlamini was soon called into action at the other end, though, as he tipped Yannick Zakri's looping header over the crossbar on 12 minutes from Rodrick Kabwe's cross on the left.
Mpho Kgaswane failed to keep his free-kick down on the half-hour mark as the Limpopo outfit wasted a promising chance, and Zakri almost made them pay with a free header that he directed off target five minutes before half-time.
The final opportunity of the half saw Talent Chawapiwa drag a left-footed shot wide of the right post from outside the box, while second-half substitute Samuel Julies looked to make an immediate impact for Ajax when he forced a superb save out of Dlamini just after the hour mark.
Dlamini was on hand to deny Julies again on 65 minutes after Zakri set him up with a header, while Chawapiwa curled an effort over at the opposite end on 79 minutes after being given too much space.
The team from the Mother City finished strongly and Sergio Kammies missed the target from inside the box nine minutes from time, before Zakri fired wide with the goal gaping five minutes later.
But their efforts finally told in added time when Dlamini failed to deal with a cross and Lebusa pounced to snatch a much-needed three points for the Urban Warriors.
