Cape Town - TS Galaxy defender Mfundo Phungwayo revealed his late teammate Thembinkosi Mbamba was a passionate Kaizer Chiefs fan and had dreams of playing for the club.
The 23-year-old tragically lost his life on Saturday morning in a car accident just a week after winning the Nedbank Cup with his team when they beat the Glamour Boys 1-0.
The rising starlet had made 12 appearances in 2018/19 for the Rockets and a bright future was predicted for the player.
However, Mbamba sadly passed away and, as such, Phungwayo expressed his sadness over the tragedy.
He told KickOff: "He wanted to go to eKhosini [Chiefs] that guy with all his heart.
"He desperately wanted to go there. He would refer to them as 'Phefeni Boys'. 'I want to find myself playing with the Phefeni Boys' he would say. He would always tell you about Chiefs, he loved iKhosi so badly. He told me he was going to play there no matter what.
"It's sad my brother there's nothing we can change, it happened. The only thing we know at the moment is that it was an accident. I don't think he was the one driving because he can't drive. I personally know him he can't drive. I don't think he was the one driving.
"I know him since 2007. We were together at the Swallows development side. He is from Daveyton. We've lost a serious player in him, my brother, you know. We lost a good guy you see. He is one of South Africa's best players my man. He was a good person, he was always happy that guy. He had no problem with anyone."
