Cape Town - Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United renew old rivalries when they clash in the Nedbank Cup at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu on Sunday.
The two KwaZulu-Natal sides met in the Premiership a week ago with Abafana Best’thende walking away with the bragging rights thanks to a 1-0 win at the same venue.
Clinton Larsen’s men were, however, beaten in another league game in midweek, going down 2-0 to Platinum Stars, while the Team of Choice have had a full week to recover.
“What happened to us in the league on Tuesday makes little difference to this game,” Larsen said.
“This is the cup, where a place in the next round is at stake and we will give it our all to be that team.
“I think there’ll be an element of grudge from their side having been beaten by us last week, but we’ll be prepared and we look forward to a good game.”
Arrows’ lengthy injury list got even longer this week when Limbikani Mzava hobbled off against Dikwena. He is set to miss out on Sunday, along with fellow defender Lehlohonolo Nonyane as well as midfield quartet of Kagisho Dikgacoi, Nkanyiso Cele, Vuyani Ntanga and Danny Phiri.
Maritzburg have a clean bill of health to report, with Andrea Filleccia finally in contention after an injury plagued season.
Kick off is at 15:30.
