Lakay: Pitso wants to use me as a left-back

Cape Town - New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Lyle Lakay has revealed that Pitso Mosimane intends to use him as a left-back, although the coach also trusts him on the wing and in midfield.

Masandawana announced the capture of Lakay from Cape Town City on 16 July and Mosimane wasted no time in praising the 26-year-old's versatility - a trait which he appreciates in his players.

"I believe we can use him in three positions. I just don't like players who play one position. You must play two positions," the 53-year-old told KickOff.

"He can play left-back, he can play left wing and also if we play a three-man midfield he can play on the left side of the midfield. He has a very good work rate and he has the speed that we want, especially for left-back."

Lakay has now confirmed that Mosimane told him his intention was to utilise him on the left side of the Masandawana defence.

"Pitso explained to me the reasons he wanted me to come here‚" Lakay said, according to SowetanLIVE.

"He told me that he wants to use me as a left-back because I have got the engine. I am comfortable with playing in that position because in the modern game fullbacks are sometimes more offensive than defensive.

"My main aim is to break into the starting XI and be consistent in the coming season."

Lakay played in 28 Premiership games for Cape Town City in 2017/18, and regardless of his position, will be hoping to feature as regularly for the defending South African champions.
