Komphela's Celtic edge Leopards

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic moved to the top of the Premiership standings as they defeated Black Leopards 1-0 in Sunday's clash.

Celtic got the opening goal when Ndumiso Mabena brought down a ball from inside the area to set-up Tshegofatsa Mabasa for an easy finish inside 10 minutes.

A penalty appeal was made by the home side when Marks Munyai's cross seemed to hit the hand of a Celtic defender, though nothing was given by the match official.

Nonetheless, Siwelele were in the ascendancy and it was Mabena who came close to adding a second though his free-kick went narrowly wide of the target.

Leopards came close to a leveler but Mwape Musonda saw his strike well saved by Patrick Tignyemb.

A flurry of chances then arrioved as Phathushedzo Nange saw his shot tipped on to the bar by Tignyemb, before Musonda fired wide on the follow-up.

Steve Komphela's men came close not long after as Tshepo Rikhotso's header from a corner was saved by King Ndlovu.

The hosts grew stronger as the match progressed as Phathutshedzo Nange fired wide with an audacious volley.

However, the visitors were able to weather a late storm and collect a valuable three points in the Premiership title race.
