Komphela: We are running our own race

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Steve Komphela expressed his delight in seeing his side determined to prove themselves.

According to the club’s official website, the former Free State Stars coach says that Anakhosi are eager to grow and improve as the season progresses.

“We dug deep and worked hard to score two goals and win the match,” reflects Steve Komphela on the 2-1 win over Maritzburg United on Saturday.

“The players are focused. It is nice to see your experienced players leading from the front.

“Willard Katsande and Siphiwe Tshabalala are showing a rich vein of form and that’s good for the team.

“I am delighted with the win and applaud the players for showing this level of consistency.”

“We just want to keep growing and growing,” Komphela continues, “and, growth is not only technical, it is also about confidence.

“All we want is to win every match.”

Chiefs are on a current five game unbeaten run and a match against Highlands Park next week could put the club in good position.

“We are running our own race,” the Amakhosi coach reacts.

“We are looking only at the matches that we have to play and not on how other teams are playing.”

Amakhosi will next host Highlands in an Absa Premiership fixture at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, February 18.

Kick-off is at 18:00.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
