Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has called on fans to pick an attacking side during next season's installment of the Carling Black Label Cup.

The competition is a once-off game between Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in pre-season in which fans get to select the starting line-ups.

The official unveiling of the Cup was made on Tuesday at the Johannesburg Park Station with some new innovations added to the format.

For the 2017/18 match, supporters may now vote for the formation they wish to see.

This year’s Carling Black Label Champion Cup game will be held on Saturday, July 29 at FNB Stadium (kick-off is at 15:30).

According to the club's official website, consumers will be able to engage with the campaign for free on the USSD platform this year.

And, to entice fans even more, one will not only be able to select their starting line-up, but will now be able to further entrench their coaching abilities by selecting their preferred tactical formation.

The four options provided to the fans are the following: 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-3 and 4-3-3.

South African soccer legends Benni McCarthy, Shaun Bartlett and Marks Maponyane spoke at the launch about the various formations.

"The formation is the structure, the foundation of how you want to have your side play the game," former Amakhosi striker Bartlett explained.

Komphela reiterated that, “the tactical formation always depends on the players you have. And you have to work on the implementation of it as well.”

Nonetheless, Komphela has urged the Amakhosi faithful to pick an offensive team.

"It will be the start of the season and the players might not be in a condition that suits the formation - it will be tough," he told reporters.

"(But)The 'Champion Coaches' will suffer and the actual coaches (Komphela and Kjell Jonevret) will just come in to rectify the situation.

"Khosi please pick good defensive players as well as those who can attack - we want to score goals."
