Komphela signalling change in off-season

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he is looking to build a squad in the off-season that plays with energy and commands respect, following a 2-0 defeat to Chippa United on the final day of the Absa Premiership campaign.

Amakhosi missed out on a top-three finish on the final day as they ended the season in fifth place in the Premiership table, just one point behind Platinum Stars and Black Aces.

And Komphela was gracious in defeat, heaping praise on Chippa, who themselves finished the season one point behind Chiefs.

"Well done to Chippa United - lets congratulate them, they played a nice game with good energy and nice movement, with good technique and a nice attitude," Komphela told SuperSport.

"They wanted it; where we could hardly put our foot, they put their head - that's commitment.

"As for us, there's nice work left for us. I'm happy it's over, we going to start proper."

When asked if he was looking to bolster his squad, Komphela added: "That will come at the right time. The hunger I have is to go and get a team that has energy - our team must play with more energy.

"Anybody that plays with energy has respect - we just need to get that respect back."
