Khuzwayo will have to wait for Bucs debut

Cape Town - Brilliant Khuzwayo could have to wait up to a month to make his league debut for Orlando Pirates as an injury precautionary measure.

Khuzwayo arrived at Bucs during the off-season after six years at Kaizer Chiefs and already seems to be popular amongst his team-mates and with the fans.

But he will not be eligible for selection in Bucs' opening league game of the season after the club announced on Wednesday that he needs treatment to his ankle.

The good news though for Pirates fans is that the Bafana-capped keeper should soon be ready to go as the issue is not an overly serious one.

"Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo will miss the start of the league as he is set to be out of action for between 3-4 weeks," read a statement on the Amabhakabhaka website.

"Khuzwayo will see an orthopaedic surgeon this week to remove screws in his ankle and to have a scope performed.

"Although not serious, this treatment is more of a corrective measure to allow the player to endure a pain-free season with the Buccaneers."

In Khuzwayo's absence, Pirates can call on the likes of Jackson Mabokgwane, Wayne Sandilands and Siyabonga Mpontshane to stand between the sticks.

In the next month, the Sea Robbers are set to play Highlands Park, Chippa United, Bidvest Wits, Bloemfontein Celtic and Black Leopards in the league, while they take on SuperSport in the MTN8.
