Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune says that their game against Jomo Cosmos is a chance for them to get their season back on track.
According to the clubs website, Amakhosi will be looking to get the three points when hosting Ezenkosi in an Absa Premiership fixture at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday, March 15.
The Amakhosi are placed fourth on the Absa Premiership log with 39 points from 22 matches, while Ezenkosi are flirting with relegation and are in 15th position with 17 points from 22 matches.
“There’s not much time to prepare for the Cosmos game, because we played on Saturday,” Khune said after Chiefs suffered a 1-0 defeat against ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League.
“On the other hand, we work according to a schedule and we will be ready for the match. We have the character to bounce back.”
After being fully fit again, Khune returned back into the starting line-up for the Platinum Stars clash.
“It's good to be back, as it is always an honour to have an opportunity to make a contribution in the field of play,” says Khune, who was selected for Bafana Bafana to play in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cameroon.
“We are pushing hard to get back on track,” the ‘keeper said.
“We want to finish the season on a high, which means that we need wins. We know Cosmos are a good side. They will definitely want to raise the bar against us. We just have to be prepared for that.”
In head-to-head stats, Cosmos and Chiefs have met each other in 50 league matches since 1985, with the Amakhosi recording 20 wins compared to seven for Ezenkosi, while no less than 23 matches have been drawn.
“It is going to take an effort to beat them,” said Khune.
“But that’s what we need, as it’s important to get back on track.”
Kick-off is at 19:00.
