Katsande: It's a matter of maintaining your fitness

Willard Katsande says he's hopeful that Kaizer Chiefs will fit in a few friendlies before the Absa Premiership resumes, while stressing the need to remain vigilant during difficult times.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who is currently injured, is working on his recovery at home as he observes the 21-day lockdown as a result of the coronavirus.

It remains unclear when the Premiership will be able to resume, but Katsande, who has outlined the need to stay safe during these challenging times, explained that sharpness may be an issue for players on their return to training.

The Zimbabwean told the Daily Sun: "These are scary moments for us but we have no choice but to follow what the healthcare professionals want us to do.

"We must all be careful in order not to transmit the disease from one person to another - stay at home, use sanitisers and maintain physical distancing."

He added: "It's always difficult to come back to the form of your past after such a break but we will be on top of our game. As a professional, you must get back on the horse and ride toward the finish line at high speed.

"We have to work on our sharpness and play two or three friendlies before we can resume our league schedule; that may help. It's a matter of maintaining your fitness."

Amakhosi entered the enforced break on top of the Premiership standings with 48 points from 22 games.
