Kaizer Chiefs getting closer to coach announcement

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has suggested the Glamour Boys' new head coach could be announced in the next week.

Amakhosi begin the new season on July 21 when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the newly-formed pre-season tournament, the Shell Helix Ultra Cup, which takes place at the FNB Stadium.

The players are currently on their off-season break, but are expected to be back for pre-season in the next week or two, and by then there could well be a new head coach in place.

Motaung confirmed it won't be much longer:

"It was six and it's still six," he told the Sowetan.

"We will cut it down to three this week, or maybe one.

"We don't want to make comments at the moment, just give us time to go on with the process that we are following.

"We will call you (the media) soon," he continued.

"We will make our people (the fans) aware and tell them what's happening. We will appoint a new coach before pre-season."

Amongst those speculated to be in the running to become Steve Komphela's successor are former Chelsea manager Avram Grant, as well as Serbian coach Nikola Kavazovic, currently at Botswana club Township Rollers, former TP Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron and Luc Eymael, who won the Nedbank Cup with Free State Stars last month.
