Kaizer Chiefs duo face lengthy injury layoff

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defensive duo, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Eric Mathoho face a lengthy period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on their respective injuries, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Mphahlele was stretchered off - after suffering a knee injury - in an Absa Premiership clash against Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium on December 1.

"Rama has since undergone surgery on his knee," team physiotherapist, David Milner said. "The doctor was very happy with the procedure with the player  able to start rehabilitation as soon as possible, and should be out for six to eight weeks."

Centre-back, Eric Mathoho was stretchered off in the CAF Confederations Cup second-leg clash against Zimamoto at the Amaan Stadium just three days later in a double injury blow.

"Tower tore two ligaments in his ankle," Milner added. "He had surgery on Friday and will be out for about three months."

Meanwhile, Ryan Moon returned from Zanzibar with a small fracture under the eye socket and will be under constant evaluation to ascertain his availability to play.

Chiefs next host SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership encounter the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
