Kadodia: Tinkler and fans the perfect recipe

Maritzburg United chairman Farouk Kadodia has heaped praise on coach Eric Tinkler for bringing the best out of the club's player's.

Tinkler took over the Team of Choice when they were in trouble of relegation in January 2019 and steered the side to safety via the playoffs.

This term, the former Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Chippa United boss guided Maritzburg to the Telkom Knockout final, where they ultimately lost to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The club also entered the enforced break and 21-day lockdown as a result of the coronavirus in fifth place on the Premiership standings.

A proud Kadodia told the SowetanLIVE: "One thing you must know in football – it’s about the coach winning the dressing room and getting the best out of players.

"I think that’s the first ingredient if the club is going to have success. And I think Eric has done well in terms of that‚ as far as he’s got the best out of the players."

Kadodia added that packed home games at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday nights has become a fan favourite and has also been key in the club's improved performances.

"I think the second factor in our good season is that the home ground at Harry Gwala this season was better than what we’ve ever had in Pietermaritzburg,” Kadodia said.

"I think that alone‚ especially this particular season‚ has been a big factor. I think we’re unbeaten at Harry Gwala this year.

"And that vibe on a Friday night‚ and the marketing direction as a club into a Friday night mode‚ I think has worked for us exceptionally well."
