Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler is not is not in the frame to become the next Maritzburg United coach, according to club chairman Farook Kadodia.
The Team of Choice boss has also blasted recent reports linking Tinkler to the position, insisting such claims were 'mischievous'.
Maritzburg are presently in the market for a new coach following the axing of veteran Clive Barker last week.
"There are certain people getting up to mischief with regards to Eric Tinkler," Kadodia told Vodacom Soccer.
"We haven't had any talks with him, his agent or anybody.
"I don't know how the media has speculated that Eric Tinkler is linked with a move to our club. It's completely untrue."
Other names being associated with the club since Barker's exit have been Serbian coach Vladislav Heric and former Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Shaun Bartlett.
But Kadodia refused to give too much away in terms of who his new man will be, saying only that he hoped to make an appointment before the new year.
"We can't reveal anything at this point in time," he added.
"All I can say is that we will make a statement just before Christmas or just after Christmas. We want to have the new coach in place before January 1 at the latest."
It was confirmed that assistant coach Fadlu Davids will take charge of the team for their final fixture of the year, against Platinum Stars on 20 December.
The Pietermaritzburg club are presently bottom of the Premiership table with five points from 11 games, the same number of points as University of Pretoria, who have two games in hand.
