Josephs excited by AmaZulu challenge

Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs believes he can help AmaZulu compete for silverware in the upcoming Absa Premiership season.

The 38-year-old made his professional debut 21 years ago and has won every honour in the domestic game. Now he hopes to inspire a young Usuthu team.

"If you look at the big teams across South Africa, AmaZulu definitely comes up as one of them. They are a team that’s such a big brand but have been lacking in trophies and I’m hoping me coming here could just inspire some of the youngsters to want to drive and get that goal sorted.

"They have invested a lot in this team so we as players need to pay that back by winning trophies," Josephs told Vodacom Soccer.

The former Orlando Pirates shot-stopper is familiar with AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson and is keen to produce results for the man who put his faith in him when he was just a teenager trying to make his mark.

"I know coach Cavin from when I was young, he used to be my coach at development level at Ajax Cape Town. I have a good relationship with him as well.

"As soon as I that heard he was interested in me coming here, I never thought twice because he has helped my career grow when I was a youngster, so for me to come here and try and help him be successful, it wasn't even a thought in my brain. It was a no-brainer."

Josephs says he is thrilled to be in Durban but points out that he is not in the coastal city for a holiday.

"I have stayed in Johannesburg for 14 years you know. Winters are cold there, here there's no winter. It's a relaxed atmosphere, good environment, I just love being here. It’s a beautiful place. The hard work starts now," Josephs concluded.
