Johnson: Zongo needs to score goals

Cape Town - Platinum Stars boss Cavin Johnson has urged Masibusane Zongo to start maturing as a footballer by adding goals to his game.

The former Supersport United head-coach has shown tremendous faith in the eccentric winger this season by giving him a chance at Dikwena but admits Zongo should be performing at a much higher level at his current age.

"Zongo has not been a consistent performer in the PSL for the last five years," the 57-year old told Sowetan Live.

"I have always known that Zongo is a good player. People were excited about him being back. He did a couple of tricks, but I need Zongo to take his game to another level.

"He has to be more direct and that can be done with flair like Lionel Messi's. Messi scored his first goal when he was 17, and he's now on 301 [La Liga] goals. I said to Zongo, 'You are 25 and how many goals have you scored?' Five. That's not good enough'.

Since graduating from the SuperSport United academy in 2008, Zongo has only managed to appear 52 times in the Premiership due to various disciplinary issues, but Johnson insists that he's become more professional as a footballer.
