Cape Town - AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson says his side must live up to their name and fight like 'warriors' against relegation from the Absa Premiership.

Usuthu are currently rock-bottom having been deducted six points by FIFA after failing to pay former player Phinheas Nambandi fees owed to him after his contract was wrongfully terminated early.

The Durban-based outfit had started 2018/19 in solid fashion prior to the points deduction, which came about after the team did not pay Nambandi his funds on a date set by the world's governing body.

In addition, Johnson's team are on a five-match winless streak and drew their previous two league outings with Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates.

He told KickOff: "All I've done is to get them together, to do what we do better and that is to play football.

"We have to work a little bit harder, which is not only about football. But work a little harder on your concentration, work a little harder on your mentality, work a little harder on who you are outside of football.

"All those things come together and if you put a little more effort in it gets stronger and stronger.

"We go to war when we are playing against other teams in the Telkom Knockout and the league, we are going to war. Everybody comes, everybody comes in the changing room, everybody goes out in the changing room.

"We cannot be loose in any way, we have to be together. It is one game at a time, but together.

"I use the word 'war' because this is the only team... in Africa... that is named after the warrior... AmaZulu. This is the only team that can be called AmaZulu in the world. You cannot take this name and go and play in America and call it AmaZulu. You can't."
