Cape Town - Former AmaZulu defender Siphiwe Mkhonza says Usuthu coach Cavin Johnson should be including veteran strikers Mabhuti Khenyeza and Siyabonga Nomvethe in the starting XI.

The two former Kaizer Chiefs marksmen did start together in Wednesday night's 1-0 win over SuperSport in Pretoria, with Khenyeza having a hand in Ovidy Kararu's winning goal.

But for much of the campaign though the two have not been paired in the starting line-up, Khenyeza (35) having only begun four games and the 40-year-old Nomvethe five.

Mkhonza, now a football analyst, feels Johnson would be well advised to throw caution to the wind and look beyond the two strikers' ages.

"The experience of Khenyeza and Nomvethe will be vital for AmaZulu. I think Johnson has been trying to manage them by not starting them at the same time, but I feel they play better together.

"The coach must make use of their combination," the former Golden Arrows, Chiefs and Usuthu defender told the Sowetan.

"Against SuperSport it was evident that they still have a lot to offer. Khenyeza is very important, even if he does not score but the team plays off him.

The situation AmaZulu are in does not allow them to develop or manage individuals, they need proven goal scorers," he concluded.
