Johnson praises Stars for Sundowns draw

Cape Town - Platinum Stars head coach Cavin Johnson says he wishes his team could play every game the way they did in the 2-2 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday.

A brace by Ndumiso Mabena put Dikwena 2-1 up against the African and domestic champions in Pretoria, who were able to salvage a draw through Yannick Zakri's equaliser 20 minutes from time.

Stars have now drawn two and lost four of their last six matches and are only four points above the drop zone.

But Johnson will be hoping they can get back to winning ways by replicating the effort put in against the Brazilians.

"We came here with one point and you steal a point from Mamelodi Sundowns. We are happy, I thought the boys put in a good shift today," he said after the game.

"If they play like this every week, then we wouldn't be looking to climb out of the hole we are in. They really did their job.

"Sundowns are not African champions for nothing. They can play the game and they missed a few a chances. I thought the goalkeeper (Mbongeni Mzimela) was more of the Man of the Match than Ndumiso Mabena."

Johnson however admitted that overall he feels his team has under-performed this season.

"Look we haven't had a good season, as you know we ended in the top three last season and we started very bad," he explained.

"Going into the break, we picked up some maximum points, but then we started bad in the new year. We still have four games to go and we have to grind for results. because we are not in a good position."
