Cape Town - Wits defender Robyn Johannes admits that "anything is possible" amid suggestions of a potential return to Cape Town City but insists his "focus is still at Wits".
The experienced centre-back, 32, joined the Clever Boys from City ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and became a key player, making 22 appearances in the Absa Premiership.
However, his involvement has dropped off sharply under head coach Gavin Hunt this season, leading to rumours of a potential exit before the transfer deadline.
And, with Benni McCarthy's Citizens mentioned as a possible destination, Johannes concedes it would be difficult to turn them down if they came calling.
"With coach Benni and everyone else's wishes, we don't know who's capable of wishing for what," Johannes told IOL.
"But in football, I've seen funnier things happen.
"Him (McCarthy) and Cape Town City are very close to my heart. I've got love and respect for the coach, and that will never change. We don't know what will happen next week, we'll wait and see."
He added: "I don't think he (McCarthy) has to do much persuading; I have a contract with Bidvest Wits so those are the people that they need to persuade.
"But like I said, they are a club close to my heart, so we'll see what happens.
"Anything is possible, but my focus is still at Wits. So, whatever happens beyond that, I guess we'll wait and see."
During a two-year spell with the Citizens, between 2016 and 2018, Johannes racked up over 50 appearances in all competitions.
