Jele own goal sees Pirates settle for draw at Baroka

Cape Town - A late Happy Jele own goal turned the tide against Orlando Pirates, who to settle with a disappointing 2-2 draw against Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The captain was back in the team after missing their previous fixture through suspension, but it will probably be a game he would rather forget.

The result leaves Pirates in danger of dropping out of the top eight in the Premiership and will further increase the pressure on manager Rhulani Mokoena.

The Buccaneers burst out of the blocks and had Baroka under the cosh from the opening whistle.

They looked a bit disjointed up top with Linda Mntambo coming in for the injured Thembinkosi Lorch, but the combination with Vincent Pule and Fortune Makaringe flourished as the match went on.

Mntambo got his name on the scoresheet in the 40th minute after reacting quickest in the box after Pule's free kick was well saved by Elvis Chipezeze. But Mntambo got to the rebound first and poked the ball into the back of the net.

Pirates seemed to have put the result beyond doubt in seven minutes after half time when Kabelo Dlamini scored with a lovely finish.

They took their foot off the gas to conserve their legs during a busy fixture schedule and seemed to be cruising to a comfortable win.

However, things began to go south eight minutes from full time when Happy Jele put the ball into his own net.

It went from bad to worse eight minutes later when Gerald Phiri scored the equaliser to consign Pirates to their sixth draw in the league this season from 13 games played.
